What is Laser Hair Removal with IPL?
Laser hair removal is a permanent solution to unwanted hair in various parts of the body.
While other hair removal methods such as waxing, tweezing, and shaving may provide short-term smoothness, these treatments can be time-consuming, tedious, and expensive over time. Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the U.S. due to its desirability, efficacy, convenience, and ability to be performed on various parts of the body. Our laser hair removal treatment can free you from perpetual appointments, varied results, and repeated expenses attributed to less effective hair removal methods with temporary results.
The IPL laser hair removal procedure delivers heat to the hair follicle, which prevents or delays the regrowth of the hair. This is achieved through the delivery of a broad spectrum of light (Intense Pulsed Light) to the melanin in the hair, which is converted into heat. The heat quickly reaches the hair follicle, inhibiting the hair’s ability to grow. This process allows for the quick and effective treatment of unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is most commonly performed on the upper lip, chin, arms, legs, chest, underarms, and bikini areas, though it can be used on almost any area of the body.

What to Expect During IPL Laser Hair Removal
Before arriving at A Younger You Med Spa for your treatment, we ask that you please have your hair completely shaved at the treatment area prior to your procedure.
A cooling substance will be applied to the treatment area. Our esthetic specialist will then apply the IPL to your skin using a handheld device. Treatment may feel similar to the snap of a rubber band. Depending on the area being treated, each session may last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and multiple treatments spaced several weeks apart are generally needed to achieve desired results.
After Your IPL Treatment
Following your IPL laser hair removal treatment, you may experience some swelling or redness. Treat the area with a cold compress as needed. Skincare products should be avoided for 24 hours. Skin exfoliation should be avoided for at least one week. Tanning and sunlight should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after treatment (or between treatments).
IPL Laser Hair Removal FAQs
Does IPL remove hair permanently?
IPL impedes hair growth drastically but does not necessarily eliminate hair growth permanently. Some clients may experience permanent hair loss after multiple sessions but that is not the case for all clients.
Who is a good candidate for IPL laser hair removal?
IPL laser hair removal is a safe and effective option for most clients who would like to drastically reduce the amount of hair or rate of hair growth on a specific part of their body. However, IPL may not be safe for some clients due to pregnancy, sunburn or sun exposure, infection, skin conditions, seizures, other recent hair removal treatments, dark skin, and certain medications. It is important to discuss your medical history, current medications, and any other health concerns with us prior to treatment.
Is there any downtime following IPL laser hair removal?
There is no downtime following IPL treatment and clients may return to their normal activities the day of treatment. Exercise should be avoided for 24 hours.
How far apart should treatments be spaced?
Treatments should be spaced at least 4 weeks apart but may require a longer period for certain treatment areas.
How many treatments will be needed?
The number of treatments needed varies depending on the patient and the area being treated but generally, the number required falls in the range of 3 to 8. Annual treatments may be needed after the initial series in order to maintain results.
Can IPL treatment make dark spots worse?
IPL laser hair removal can make the appearance of dark spots in the treatment area worse, as the melanin within the skin is heated.
Is IPL laser hair removal a good option for people with darker skin tones?
IPL laser hair removal presents an increased risk of burn on darker skin tones.
