What is PRP Injection treatment?

Also known as the “Vampire Facial”, PRP skin rejuvenation treatment has boomed in popularity over recent years due to celebrity and social media influencer endorsements.

Safety, efficacy, affordability, and convenience make this minimally invasive procedure an attractive and accessible alternative to more invasive or chemical-based skin rejuvenating treatment options. PRP injection treatment involves the extraction, isolation, and injection of platelet-rich plasma from the client’s own blood to restore soft tissue and promote hair growth. The body’s natural healing process is employed to treat fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity, textural issues, skin dullness, stretch marks, and hair loss. PRP injection treatment is safe and effective for all ages and skin types.

What to Expect

There are several steps involved in the PRP injection process.

First, the client’s blood must be drawn in order to extract the platelet-rich plasma. The blood sample is placed in a centrifuge, and the plasma is isolated. The product is a concentrated substance rich with tissue-restoring platelets which can be safely injected or applied through microneedling.

The treatment area will be sanitized and an anesthetic will be administered. For microneedling PRP treatments, the area will be treated with microneedling before the plasma is applied topically and allowed to soak deep into the skin. For injection treatments, multiple injections will be made into the treatment area. The injection portion of the procedure will take 30 to 60 minutes. A serum may be applied before you leave the facility.

How does PRP Injection treatment work?

There are many skin conditions that we can attribute to the aging process, including skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, loss of moisture, textural problems, and skin dullness. When our own platelet-rich plasma is injected, the body’s natural healing process is kicked into high gear, and old, damaged cells are repaired or replaced by new, healthy cells. The result is tighter, smoother, brighter, younger-looking skin. PRP Injections can also be used to promote regrowth in hair follicles to treat hair loss.

PRP Injection Recovery

Recovery from PRP injection therapy is minimal, and you may be able to return to work the following day. The skin may be slightly red or irritated. You’ll want to cleanse and moisturize the skin daily with gentle products. Products with harsh ingredients and exfoliants should be avoided. It is also recommended that strenuous exercise and excessive heat is avoided until the treatment area has healed.

Your PRP Injection Results

Improvement in skin condition will become visible 2 to 3 weeks following treatment, and full results taking 4 to 6 weeks. Results from PRP injection treatment can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. PRP Injections FAQs

What are the side effects of PRP injection treatment?

The most common side effects of PRP injections are swelling, redness, bruising, and inflammation. These conditions should resolve within 4 to 6 days following treatment. Because PRP contains your own blood, there is little risk of infection. It is important to note that PRP injection treatment can cause outbreaks in those with a history of herpes simplex.

Who is a good candidate for PRP injection treatment?

PRP injection treatment is safe and effective for all ages and skin types and may be right for anyone who is interested in restoring firmness, moisture, smoothness, or brightness to aging or damaged skin. However, there are several conditions that may prevent someone from being able to receive PRP injections. They include sepsis, chronic liver disease, low platelet count, hemodynamic instability, acute and chronic infections, and anticoagulation therapy (including dabigatran, warfarin, and heparin).

Is PRP injection treatment FDA approved?

Due to the fact that PRP injections do not involve the use of any drugs, the treatment is not subject to FDA approval. However, the safety of PRP injections is widely accepted due to the fact that the substance being injected is the client’s own plasma.
